Investigation of exposure correction models for wind speed measurements

چکیده
Considerable errors may be introduced in storm intensity estimations and their subsequent applications if raw surface wind speed records are not corrected to properly account for exposure effects. This study investigates the calculation of correction factors ( ECFs $$ \mathrm{ECFs} ) by different theoretical code-based models. Estimation roughness length z 0 {z}_0 based on suitable gustiness model is provided, as this metric involved calculating . The sensitivity estimation input parameters analysed. A comprehensive evaluation ECF \mathrm{ECF} models made, which includes World Meteorological Organization (WMO) with various blending heights b {z}_{\mathrm{b}} , Biétry model, power-law Engineering Sciences Data Unit Chinese, Japanese, Eurocode International Standardization codes, well combination WMO formula two (He Ashcroft model) respectively. It found that most appropriate practice provided combined application He a height, 80 m {z}_{\mathrm{b}},\mathrm{of}\kern1.00em 80\mathrm{m}

Comparison of Models for Wind Speed Forecasting
In this paper an ARIMA model is used for time-series forecast involving wind speed measurements. Results are compared with the performance of a back propagation type NNT. Results show that ARIMA model is better than NNT for short time-intervals to forecast (10 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and 4 hours). Data was acquired from a unit located in Southern Andalusia (Peñaflor, Sevilla), with a soft orog...
متن کاملLIDAR Wind Speed Measurements of Evolving Wind Fields
Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) systems are able to measure the speed of incoming wind before it interacts with a wind turbine rotor. These preview wind measurements can be used in feedforward control systems that are designed to reduce turbine loads. However, the degree to which such preview-based control techniques can reduce loads by reacting to turbulence depends on how accurately the i...
متن کاملWind Speed for Load Forecasting Models
Temperature and its variants, such as polynomials and lags, have been the most frequently-used weather variables in load forecasting models. Some of the well-known secondary driving factors of electricity demand include wind speed and cloud cover. Due to the increasing penetration of distributed energy resources, the net load is more and more affected by these non-temperature weather factors. T...
متن کاملEvaluation of Models for the Vertical Extrapolation of Wind Speed Measurements at Offshore Sites
Monin-Obukhov theory predicts the well-known log-linear form of the vertical wind speed profile. Two parameters, namely the aerodynamic surface roughness length and the Monin-Obukhov-length, are needed to predict the vertical wind speed profile from a measurement at one height. Different models to estimate these parameters for conditions important for offshore wind energy utilisation are discus...
متن کاملFrequency swept fibre laser for wind speed measurements PhD thesis
This PhD thesis builds around a light source forming the basis for a novel type of wind measuring lidar. The lidar emits a train of laser pulses with each pulse being separated from its neighbours in frequency, while being closely spaced in time, thus combining the advantages of conventional continuous wave (CW) and pulsed lidars. A light source capable of emitting such a pulse train is suggest...
